The Day Went “Smashingly!”
November 23, 2006I wish that title meant I had a great day, but it doesn’t. I managed to drive 475 miles today from Sayre, OK to Amarillo, TX, to the Service Center in Grand Prairie, TX. But the 15 miles it takes to get home in my car….. that didn’t go so good. I was driving home at about 9pm and I was beginning to stop at a red light when it changed to green. So I pressed on the gas and didn’t realize the car was on a wet road. It immediatily hydroplained to the right and I went up on the curb, between a street light and a crosswalk light and hit a small post light in front of a brick wall. My right front fender, light, and bumper are torn apart. And my very expensive front right tire and rim are destroyed. Believe it or not, it’s actually still drivable, once I get a tire, of course. I came out of it just fine. I’m not even sore. I probably only hit at about 5 or 6 mph anyways.
So, I called Susan and her and everyone else came over to the accident. Then I made a call I wish I hadn’t. I called 911. BIG MISTAKE! I thought I was doing the right thing by calling the to report the accident. Instead the cop gave me a ticket for driving unsave for road conditions, an outdated insurance card, and not changing the address on my license. My jaw hit the floor. What kind of crap is that? What he didn’t think the cost of repairing the car was going to be enough? I wanted to call him all sorts of things, but I figured he had done enough to me. Anyway, after Jeromy went and got air in my doughnut tire, my other brother-in-law, Brandon, put it on and he drove it back to my house.
My insurance deductable is $500. The damage to my car is mostly cosmetic. No frame damage as far as anyone could tell. I can probably get all the parts it needs at a salvage yard. I’m going to see if buying the parts and putting them on myself will be cheaper than the deductable. I haven’t done body work on a car since I had my 86′ camaro. That didn’t turn out too bad. You could still tell it had been in an accident, but the damage was much more extensive and I was much younger at the time. Plus, I think that with the resources I have at my disposal (aka. Brandon the mechanic) the car sould be able to look good as new when all the parts are replaced.
Alright, I’ll quit talking about it now and go to bed. Goodnight all.

just glad that you’re safe. everything will be fine and back to normal before you know it.
and yes… the cop was unreasonable in giving you so many tickets. i think you will be able to most if not all of them dismissed, though.
you didn’t even mention the “tomorrow’s thanksgiving” guy.
haha, yea, what about “tomorrow’s thanksgiving!”
Sorry. Here’s the story on the “Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving” guy. While the cops were busy with me, some moran decided to blow their horn and yell out the window as they went by. Then they came by again from the other direction and honked and yelled, “Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving” to the cops. I guess they thought the cops were too busy to mess with them. They were wrong. One of the cops went after them and pulled them over. The passenger had warrants out for his arrest and the driver didn’t even have a license. Plus there was a6 pack of beer in the car.
